THE DATASET

The dataset ("hotels" if you want to play with it) tracks bookings made on a online travel agent site in the USA and United Kingdom in two successive years. Booking windows show the time between booking and trip.

We want to understand:

  1. Where attention should be focused - what market to focus on
  2. Which segments are driving performance and why
  3. Possible solutions to improve performance

Answer.

Las Vegas C window reservations contracted significantly in terms of units, that the average price increase could not offset.

Manhattan fall in revenues was driven by E reservations from the USA and D reservations from the UK.

Only these booking windows saw price increases.

The impact on margins mirrored the impact on sales.
